My whole working life has been about making a difference and helping my clients to better their financial position.

My first job was as a bank officer and it was there I learnt why people get into financial trouble.

At the age of 25 I took up an AMP Society agency and I made it my purpose in business to assist and guide my generation into building wealth and protecting themselves by making smart decisions with their money.

From the early years in financial services where strategies were simple, personal taxation high and the banking products very inflexible, I grew my business by meeting my clients' needs with the latest strategies and products such as home loans and tax-effective saving plans.

Falconer’s advice business today, grew from these beginnings and the goal is the same today: provide our clients with the best advice that will protect and enhance their financial future.   

Outside of business I enjoy life through my interest in contemporary art, playing Real Tennis and caring for my grown up family and grandchildren.

Helping people improve their financial position provides me a great deal of personal satisfaction.

Every day I use knowledge gained from my academic qualifications in Economics, Marketing, Business, and Financial Planning to make a positive contribution to a client’s situation. In a world of ever changing markets and legislation it’s a challenge and a necessity to stay up to date, however constantly learning is a part of what I enjoy.

My clients also benefit from my experience in the finance industry, which started on the bottom rung of a finance company in 1985. Given my father was a Bank Manager it might have started much earlier than that! This experience definitely helps me be a better adviser, to understand a client’s challenges and goals, and to translate our advice and simplify the complexities of the finance world in a way that clients can understand.

What’s most rewarding is that I spend a large part of each day developing and implementing strategies that make a real difference to real people. Working with clients to put them in a better position is a great reward. In fact I feel very fortunate to have found a job that provides such a lot of satisfaction.

It’s not all markets, tax and strategy. I manage to find plenty of time to be part of our family life, which as I’m sure many people can relate to, involves attending to the social and sporting commitments of our three school age children and taking over the kitchen on weekends. Occasionally, I even manage to watch a game of rugby with a glass of red.

Financial planning for me is all about problem solving and this is what drives me to provide the best advice that I can for my clients.

Having joined the profession in 1997, I have seen many changes over the years, not only in legislation but also in our clients desire to understand and participate in their financial planning journey.

My aim is to navigate a pathway through all of the jargon, complexity and market movements to allow our clients to enjoy their lives knowing that someone is taking care of their hard earned savings.

In addition to working with my clients I am an active member of the Hutchins School community, chairing the Hutchins Art Prize Committee and a director on the Hutchins Foundation board.

I have two young sons, a husband and a network of close family and friends with whom I spend the remainder of my time.

Every goal that one of our clients achieves is a real thrill for me.

Being involved in financial markets my whole working life and as an investment adviser for 15 of those years, experiencing the effect and frustration the GFC had, not only on clients, but also on other colleagues, made me recognise that I wanted more to my client relationships.

To help them, I needed to know more about what drove them as individuals, rather than simply about the state of their investment portfolios.

The ultimate personal Iesson I gained, was that I wanted to work with like-minded clients, those who were more prepared to share with me their aspirations, whether they be financial or not.

That’s why I made one of the most important decisions I’ve had to make in my life, and moved into the financial planning profession.

I now gain my work life satisfaction through encouraging that bond of transparency with clients so we can provide the support, simplicity and confidence they need to reach for their goals.

This same drive also feeds into my personal life where my family comes first, with sport and entertaining friends a close second.

Rebecca Skinner

Rebecca joined Falconer Advisers in 2011 when she returned to the workforce after time out to raise her three children. 

Rebecca's first career was as a Registered Nurse where she developed a deep understanding of what it means to provide care for people. After leaving the nursing profession she retrained as a computer programmer and subsequently was employed by American Express where she worked on their global customer rewards systems.

Rebecca past professions give her a real “attention to detail” approach to her work, making her the ideal person to keep our business’ and clients’ administration needs running smoothly.

Given today’s reliance on computerised systems and communication, Rebecca’s IT background makes her the ideal person to support both clients and staff in smoothly implementing your advice and administrative needs.

Rebecca recently completed her Diploma in Financial Planning in a commitment to provide even better support to the business and our clients.  She is also the friendly face that greets you at reception in Hobart.

Pat Hamer

Pat joined Falconer in 2012. Pat has worked as a Registered Nurse for over twenty years.

Pat has extensive experience in customer service including working as Public Relations Manager for a large Private Hospital, senior Sales Consultant at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals and most recently as a Property Consultant in Real Estate in a firm that embraced the Jenman System of integrity and service.

Throughout Pat’s career her whole focus has been one of caring for the individual and striving to improve people’s lives. Pat is excited to be working in the Financial Services profession and can really appreciate the difference the right financial advice can make to our clients’ lives.

Now that Financial Services is Pat’s chosen career, she has completed a Diploma in Financial Planning in order to provide the best possible assistance to our valued clients.

In Pat’s role as our Client Service Manager she is the “go to” person for all assistance relating to your personal client service requirements.
